Car A/C Repair in Hammond, LA
A Tangipahoa Parish summer is no time to drive with the windows down. If your A/C is blowing warm, weak or smells funny, we'll find out why before we charge it.
What's going on with your A/C?
- It blows cool, but not cold
- It's cold on I-12 but warm when you're sitting at a light
- It works for a while and then blows warm
- The air is cold but there's barely any coming out of the vents
- A musty or mildew smell when you turn it on
- A squeal, rattle or grinding noise when the A/C kicks on
- Water on the passenger floor
Why we don't just add refrigerant
Your A/C is a sealed system. If it's low on refrigerant, it's leaking somewhere. Adding more without finding the leak might get you a few cold weeks, and then you're back paying for the same thing. We find the leak first, then tell you what it takes to fix it.
What we check
We check the system pressures, look for leaks, and test the compressor and its clutch, the condenser in front of the radiator, the cooling fans, and the switches and sensors that control it all. We also look at the cabin air filter. A clogged one can make the A/C feel weak even if everything else works.
Common fixes
- Leaking hoses, seals or fittings. O-rings and seals dry out with age and heat.
- Condenser. It sits up front and takes hits from rocks and road debris, so it can get punctured or clogged.
- Compressor or compressor clutch. If the compressor isn't turning on or is noisy, it may need repair or replacement.
- Cooling fans. If it's cold on the highway but warm in traffic, the fans may not be moving enough air across the condenser.
- Blend door or blower motor. When air won't blow, or one side is warm and the other is cold, the problem may be inside the dash.
- Cabin air filter. An easy fix for weak airflow and musty smells.
Defrost and A/C go together
On most cars, the defroster runs the A/C to dry the air. If your windshield takes forever to clear on a rainy morning, a weak A/C can be part of the reason.

Questions we get
Why does my A/C blow cold on the highway but warm at a stop?
That often points to the cooling fans or a dirty or blocked condenser. At speed, air gets forced through it. At a stop, the fans have to do the work.
Can I just recharge my A/C with a can from the parts store?
It might cool for a while, but if the system is low, it's leaking. Overcharging can also cause problems. We find the leak and fix it.
Why does my A/C smell musty?
Moisture and mold build up in the system behind the dash, and a dirty cabin air filter makes it worse. Replacing the filter and cleaning the system usually helps.
